Dr. Cisu joined our team as a general urologist with interests in robotic surgery, benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), kidney stones, and genitourinary malignancies (kidney, bladder, prostate, testicle). He has significant experience working with veterans and maintains an LGBTQ-friendly practice. He is currently accepting new patients!
Education and Experience
Dr. Cisu graduated with high honors from the University of Virginia where he completed triple majors in astronomy, mathematics, and biology and was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa and the Raven Society. He was a Lawn Resident during his final year. After pursuing a graduate research fellowship at Harvard Medical School, he received his medical degree from the University of Vermont College of Medicine where he was inducted into the Gold Humanism Honor Society. He moved back to Virginia to complete a high-volume surgical residency in urology at Virginia Commonwealth University Medical Center and the Central Virginia VA Medical Center in Richmond, VA. He was a chief resident during his final year and received the award for the Highest In-Service Score. He performed more than 2,000 surgeries during his clinical training including hundreds of operations on the da Vinci robot.
His clinical specialization includes da Vinci robotic surgery for operations on the prostate and kidney. He is well-versed in minimally-invasive procedures on the prostate including TURP, UroLift, Rezum, and is currently receiving specialized training to offer the HoLEP procedure. His work has been published in multiple peer-reviewed journals, and he has presented a multitude of abstracts at regional, national, and international meetings on urology topics. Dr. Cisu remains active in the American Urological Association, Mid-Atlantic Section of the AUA, Sexual Medicine Society of North America, and the Virginia Urological Society.
Outside the Office
Born in Romania and raised in Canada, Dr. Cisu (pronounced “see-soo”) enjoys international travel. He lives in Charlottesville with his wife and two daughters.
